The Five Sides of Stewardship
Behind our actions lie governing attitudes and principles. What we do is a result of something much deeper. There are five key areas of stewardship and each one is tied to things that lie deeper beneath the surface.
Time
Your schedule revolves around your priorities. When we look at the face of a watch, all we see is the movement of the hands. But without many moving parts being properly arranged behind the face of the watch, it could not keep proper time. We tend to allow our schedules to happen to us, instead of managing our days with care. What would happen if you took time each week to better align what you do with what you believe?
Talent
Your responsibilities revolve around your roles and abilities. Too often we don’t evaluate whether or not we are operating in the areas of our giftedness, our talents, and our interests. Are you putting your God-given design to work for the good of others?
Treasure
Your spending revolves around your values. The scripture holds true: “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” We may not play the lottery or frequent casinos, but we take chances everyday with our money trying to find fulfillment on long shots. Are you making regular investments of your treasure, looking for deeper, more lasting returns?
Truth
Your beliefs revolve around what you think is real. Truth is a solid, unwavering standard upon which all of life can be measured. Jesus called Himself, “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” We know the key to life and meaning rests in a relationship with God Himself through the Gospel. Does your reverence for God impact the decisions you make, the opinions you hold, and the motives that drive you?
Relational Ties
Your ministry revolves around your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. People are not in our lives only for our own good. We are in their lives for their good too. Are you looking at your relationships in light of how you can bring people closer to God?
